Poland celebrate another 3-0 win

Wilfredo Leon hits 17 for 21 as Poland sweeps Germany in the quarter-finals

23 September 2019

The team of Poland kept their medal hopes alive on Monday night with a win over Germany in the quarter-finals. The last time Poland won a medal in this tournament was at EuroVolley 2011, when they took bronze. On Monday night, the team of coach Vital Heynen was too strong for Germany, the runner-up from EuroVolley 2017. With Wilfredo Leon as top scorer (18 points), Poland pleased their ‘home crowd’ in Apeldoorn with a solid 3-0 win. With 21 service errors, Germany struggled to score break points against the experienced Polish squad. Poland will now travel to the Slovenian capital Ljubljana, where they will play in the semifinal on Thursday against organizer Slovenia or Russia.
