Overview

A big victory in the group stage of EuroVolley 2015 was when Poland did not even lose a set against Slovenia. On the other hand the very close friendly game in Szczyrk last year, gave a very different picture of this matchup. Looking at this year’s game, as coach Nawrocki says, the game in Atlas Arena will be a whole different story. What might be worth focusing on, is definitely the match-up of setters – how will the young and perspective Eva Mori (who has recently signed with ŁKS Commercecon LODZ) look comparing to one of the most experienced players of the whole event – Joanna Wołosz?

Poland storm to comprehensive victory to delight 5,400 fans

Article

With the extra push provided by 5,400 fans, Poland caught a perfect start to their EuroVolley campaign in Lodz and even though Slovenia just got better with each set, the home side celebrated a well-deserved 3-0 victory.

Slovenia’s team captain Eva Mori received a very warm welcome from the local fans of LKS Commercecon LODZ, as the setter will be playing for the Polish club this coming season.

The 3-0 victory for Poland confirmed that together with Italy they are the clear-cut favourites for the top spot in the Pool, with the top four securing a place in the elimination round of the championship.

Day 1 Recap

Play

“Some may say that Slovenia is Europe’s second division but I feel like it was the best opponent for our first game. They played fast and had many combinations – this was all demanding and put some pressure on us. Obviously, it had to be tougher in the second set after the first finished so fast. Tomorrow we play against Portugal, the team who came here to learn what EuroVolley is all about as they make their debut in the event. We must at least repeat today’s performance.”

Zuzanna Efimienko-Młotkowska
Middle-blocker of Poland

“I am quite happy about the way we played, especially in the second set, although the score does not reflect the quality of the performance that we presented. I think we need to repeat our offensive solutions against less demanding rivals in order to get the needed victories which could lead us to secure a place the next round.”

Alessandro Chiappini
Coach of Slovenia
