Match Report

Slovakia record a confident victory against Kosovo

Article

It took Slovakia only 63 minutes to secure their second victory in Pool D after beating Kosovo in straight sets. The win puts Slovakia on top of the table and a good foundation ahead of their last match in the first Tournament of the #EuroVolleyW Qualifier. Slovakians dominated in all elements of the game, outscoring Kosovo in serve, attack and blocking.

  • This was the first ever official volleyball match between Slovakia and Kosovo women's national teams

  • Setter Anna Kohútová and libero Ema Magdinová recorded their debut in Slovakian national team, following a first cap for middle-blocker Tereza Hrušecká, who came on court on Friday night against Finland

  • Slovakia outscored Kosovo significantly in block and serve, scoring 11 and 13 points in those elements respectively, while Kosovo scored only 2 blocks and 5 aces

  • Maria Zernovic (CZE), Karin Sunderlikova (CZE) and Dhurata Sylejmani (KOS) showed a great performance at the service line, serving 3 aces each

  • Zernovic was also the top scorer of the match with 14 points

  • Sylejmani was once again the leader of her team, gaining 9 points for Kosovo

Marco Fenoglio, coach of Slovakia: “We are very happy about this victory, because every win is important in the end. This tournament is not only significant for qualification to European Championship, but also World Championship 2022, so every point and every set could be important. I am satisfied because I was able to use all of my players today and it was a big experience for our second setter. She is very young, she is 17 years old but she is talented and has character. I am happy she was on the court. Now we will think about tomorrow.”

Michaela Abrhamova, middle blocker of Slovakia: “We are happy about our second victory, it was important to reach 6 points. This game was a little bit easier than yesterday’s match, so everyone from our team had opportunity to play. We are looking forward to tomorrow, to our next, important game against Montenegro.”

Lorik Ilazi, coach of Kosovo: “My team gives a good performance in this tournament. It is not a coincidence that we have played good yesterday and today. We have raised our level, because three years ago we would have scored 7-8 points in a set and now we gained 15 or more. This is very good for us, because we are facing strong opponents. Kosovo are going step by step in Europe and we are happy with our progress.”

Dhurata Sylejmani, opposite of Kosovo: “This is a big tournament and we play against great teams. They were the favourites of this pool, but I’m glad with the game we played because our team is growing step by step.”
