Match Report

Fine-tuned Serbian machine produces emphatic shutout of Germany

Article

With CEV President Aleksandar Boričić among the spectators, the Serbian team showed a fine-tuned performance to claim an emphatic three-set win over last edition’s runners-up Germany in the opening match of Pool B in Brussels. The southern European squad finished the match the same way they opened it, with an ace! Aleksandar Atanasijevic scored from the serving line for the very first point of the match before captain Nemanja Petric did the same at match point to close the game. These two players, on 14 and 12 points, respectively, topped the scorers’ chart. In the third set, German star György Grozer had a problem with his knees and was replaced. No German player managed to reach the double digits in scoring.
