Overview

The Portuguese played the European League for the first time in 2017 and are currently debuting in a major tournament, whereas the hosts regularly play for the highest goals. The clash of an aspiring team with a “volley nation” should be a good opportunity for the young players to show up in the international scene. This game should also be a good match-up for the Poles before playing more experienced opponents than Portugal. Coach Nawrocki consistently improves his system with the team he had to rebuild. To players like Katarzyna Zaroślińska-Król and Zuzanna Efimienko-Młotkowska, Nawrocki added the most talented youth. These ladies will definitely want to prove their potential playing against a first-timer.

Match Report

Polish fans helped Poland to crush Portugal

In front of a crazy crowd in Atlas Arena Portugal didn't have the confidence and ability to shake the much taller and focused Poland. In second set Poland for the first time lost their determination and concentration a bit. That made Portugal take their chance to shake the host nation for a while.
Coach Nawrocki decided to let his key player - Smarzek-Godek rest today. He was saying yesterday, in respond to complains about how many balls Smarzek-Godek has to finish, that his ultimate goal is to create as many options in attack as possible.
Kat Zaroslinska - Krol made 18 point for Poland and became the MVP of the match.

During the match, Izabela Bełcik, Magdalena Śliwa (both are double gold medalist at the European Championship - 2003 and 2005) and Krystyna Ostromęcka-Guryn (bronze Olympic medalist in 1968) were honored for outstanding achievements in volleyball.

Day 2 Recap

Play

"Another, what may seem easy, win, but we are only getting started. Our coach uses the opportunity to experiment at this stage of the tournament. A year ago it seemed impossible that together with Magda Stysiak we will play both as opposites in this national team, but our coach believes in us - young players, looks for the future solutions and it's very motivational. Today was this kind of game that we could try different things”
