Overview

Russia has won the EuroVolley a record 19 times, with no other country winning it more than twice. Their last success came in 2015 beating host the Netherlands in the final (pictured). The 2019 edition is the 9th time for Belarus with their best result in 2017, a seventh place. While Belarus did not defeat any of their opponents in the Pool phase of the last European Championships, Russia only lost three of their previous 38 EuroVolley against teams in Pool D.

Match Report

Russia starts its EuroVolley 2019 journey with a 3-0 against Belarus

Article

Russian blocks and individual qualities were the key factors of their opening game against Belarus. Belarus players made a few times some promising leads, but despite that were not able to win a single set. Especially in the third set they were in front for a long time, Russia came to the lead for the first time at just 21-20, but the end of the set was similar like the previous two. The most successful team of European Championship made its usual start – a straight win.
