Match Report

Success for Spain, Switzerland out of #EuroVolleyW

Article 27 August 2019

Third game in Bratislava´s Group D in a row with a five sets drama. Spain’s players looked kind of frozen in the beginning, Switzerland showed good reception and powerful spikes. With two winning set and 4-1 in the beginning of third, it looks like Timo Lippuner´s side could reach its first victory in the tournament, but Spain woke up and turned the game. The final tie-break was once again drama. Spain lead 13-8, Switzerland went to 13-12, but the end of the set went to the Spanish team.

Day 5 Recap

Play

“Third key was crucial. We started well, dominated like the first two, but we missed experience in the end. That was the reason why we began to make small mistakes. We came back in the tie-break, but again made some mistakes. But as outsider we had played a good game.”

Timo Lippuner
Switzerland Coach

Pascal Saurin, Spain coach: “Tough game, but we knew it before. Switzerland is on the last place in our Group, but played good volleyball. Our opponent showed that in the first two sets. We played less aggressive comparing previous games. Switzerland players prepared very well to Escamilla and were able to block her. But we turned the game. Our key player was today Jessica Rivero.”
