Article

On Friday, Slovakia managed to grab the 3 points out of the clash with Romania, who are considered their biggest opponent on the road to securing a spot at the #EuroVolleyM Finals. In a match that lasted 107 minutes, both Slovakia and Romania fought hard on the court, but Slovakia played better in the decisive moments showing mental strenght.

  • Slovakia entered better in the match, starting good on the serve scoring 2 aces by the 8th point. Romania, however, could find their rhythm and improving on the spikes, tied the score at 11-11. The Slovak players didn't give up easily and slightly better on the block (3), emerged victorious in the first set.
  • The players coached by Marek Kardos, took the full control of the action in the beginning of the second set (10-4). Romania improved on the block, but Slovakia kept the control of the ball finishing in style decisive spikes, thus taking the 2-0 lead.
  • Romania amazed in the third set, delivering a great comeback. Inspired, the Romanian players led by Gabriel Cherbeleate, outclassed their opponents in all the components (14 winning spikes, 3 kill blocks and 3 aces). Storming out in this part, Romania tied the score and had their hopes high for bringing this matchup into a tiebreak.
  • In the fourth set, the hosts of the tournament, Slovakia reacted quickly and took back the initiative on attack. Altough Romania were trying to keep up with the Slovak rhythm of play, the players around Marek Kardos eventually emerged victorious.

  • Matej Patak and Peter Michalovic of Slovakia, contributed the most for the victory of their team, each one recording 18 and 17 points, respectively.
