Hosts Montenegro were seemingly on their way to a comfortable win after a opening up a wide two-set lead, but was not to be an easy evening for them at all.

But Azerbaijan were having none of that. They decisively turned the match around to stay alive in the game forcing a fourth set and were just about stun Montenegro with a tie-break before, right at the very end, the hosts brought it home with a very heavy sigh of relief on their second match point.

Azerbaijan gave Montenegro a hard time with their blocking, but trailed in all other skills and when the final count was in had gifted the hosts as many as 37 unforced errors (to 25).

Well-distributed scoring from Montenegro saw Aleksandar Minic, Ivan Zvicer and Vojin Cacic bring in 14 points each - though the match high of 16 belonged to Agil Aghazade.

Montenegro libero Nikola Lakcevic: "What can I say? It was a very difficult match - for sure not what we expected, for this is our home, our court. We started very well in the first two sets and were hoping it would be easier, but what can we do? They started playing, they're also very good volleyball players. It's important that we won 3-1."

Azerbaijan middle blocker Dmitrii Baranov: "This was a really good game. We could have the fourth set, but it's OK. We are happy."
