The only unbeaten team from the pool A, the national team of Poland, battled against Belgium in front of an excited crowd of over eight thousand fans in the TAURON Arena Kraków to further cement their position as the top team in the group – having already qualified for the next phase.

The reigning World Champions started to push their opponents straight from the beginning building a 9-6 lead and with the help of the outside spiker Wilfredo Leon’s power in the serving field, had shifted the opening part their way (15-9) as they moved beyond half way.  The set finished with an effective block from middle blocker Piotr Nowakowski, the best scorer from the match the day before against Greece.

After the first set loss, the players of Fernando Munoz were highly motivated to take revenge on Poland and did their best in order to have this set to their names (17-14), but Poland managed to bring it back to themselves and tied the result (19-19). Finally this set was won by the co-hosts as well and again with a fantastic block, this time performed by Łukasz Kaczmarek (26-24) sealed a two set lead.

In the third set the Belgians pushed hard to force the game into the fourth part (9-9), partly thanks to an incredible performance from the spiker Hendrik Tuerlinckx, who achieved an amazing 79% of the effective attack with 15 scored points in the match. The dominance of the block by Vital Heynen’s players was key to Poland’s victory (16 blocks in total in this match against only 6 Belgian ones) and helped set the result to 19-12. The outside spiker Tomasz Fornal appeared on the court as a substitution and closed the match by scoring the last point for Poland (25-16).
