Match Report

Belarus don't give up on the #EuroVolleyM dream

Article

On Saturday, Belarus seized a 3-1 win over Hungary, saving their chances of continuing ahead to the Finals of #EuroVolleyM, and after five days of play at the Qualifier, have three victories and two losses.

The players around head coach Viktar Baksha gave one set away to the inspired team of Hungary, but turned out to be too strong for Kristóf Horváth&co. A slightly better performance on the attack (51 winning spikes to 49 of Hungary) and 10 aces made the difference in the match and became the key to the success. Both teams suffered from problems in reception.

- Despite yesterday's loss 1-3 from Norway, Hungary were determined to enter in the match inspired and looking for ways to improve their game. Helping the young players develop was of utmost importance to the Hungary staff.

- Belarus, on the other hand, believed that they have everything in their hands, and knowing this, were aiming for the three points.

- It was a close call in the first minutes, with the result going point-for-a-point (14-13). Belarus recorded four kill blocks by this time, adding also nine winning spike. However, Hungary was playing a cat-and-mouse game with them (17-17). Radzivon Mskevich and Uladzislau Savyskiba from Belarus, with seven and six points each, helped the most to their team in these moments.

- Kristóf Horváth and Péter Balzsovics were contributing the most in the second set and spectators follwoing the match, witnessed a more balanced game with Hungary slighlty better performance on attack. Thanks to four aces and three kill blocks in this set, Hungary were able to tie the score.

- Belarus pushed on the attack in the next set, performing good on the serve (four aces), too, but Hungary continued with the good game on the net. However, it was not enough to stop Belarus who were flying on attack with 17 winning spikes.

- Nothing changed in the last set, with Belarus being better on attack and emerging victorious from the set and the match.

- Kristóf Horváth became top scorer with 16 points, while for Belarus Uladzislau Babkevich finished with 15.

"Belarus are stronger and faster. We can play good games with emotion and smart. We took our chances on the blocks. We have to stabilize the performance on reception, it is our weakest point this year. Tomorrow, the block and the serve will decide the final outcome.Portugal is the favourite."

Robert Koch, head coach of Hungary

"Today, we were not in our best shape. It might be that we were a little bit tired. We made many mistakes in attack and in reception. We will analyze the game and we know that we need to win tomorrow. we will try to be better than today."

Viktar Baksha, head coach of Belarus
