Match Report

Slovakia remain unbeaten at the end of the first #EuroVolleyW Qualifier Tournament

Article

Slovakia continue their good run, as they emerge from the first Tournament without a loss. The team competed against Montenegro on the last day of competition in Podgorica and claimed the win in straight sets. Both teams will move onto the second Tournament with Slovakia leading the pool D table with 3 wins and 9 ranking points, while Montenegro hold third position with just one victory and 4 ranking points.

  • Nikola RADOSOVA led the Slovakian team, scoring 21 points, including 19 winning spikes and 2 aces

  • Nikoleta PEROVIC (MNE) and Maria ZERNOVIC (SVK) were trailing behind Radosova with 16 points each

  • Maria Zernovic ruled at the service line, scoring 6 out of Slovakia’s 9 aces

  • Despite the loss, Montenegro dominated in block, scoring 11 points in that element

  • Ana VELJKOVIC (MNE) was the best blocker, gaining 5 points

Barbora Kosekova, setter of Slovakia: “We are very happy that we won again today. We’ve had a really hard preparation and we are happy that in the end we could play the first tournament at this level. We really pushed with serve and we’ve had a good block-defense, that’s why we were able to put a pressure on our opponent. We are taking home 9 points and we have to focus on the second tournament in Slovakia.”

Marco Fenoglio, coach of Slovakia: “I’m really satisfied after those three games, because we finish with 9 points and only one lost set. In this tournament every set and point are important for the international ranking. At the end of this first week I am satisfied and I want to thank my team, because it was not easy to finish with 9 points. Because of this I am really happy tonight.”

Ana Veljkovic, middle blocker of Montenegro: “I want to congratulate Slovakia for playing a good game. I hope that in the second tournament we will play better against them.”
