Returning to the EuroVolley after not qualifying for the event in 2019, the Czech Republic will feature a physical team on the court in which stand out outside hitter and team captain Andrea Kossanyiova (28) and middle blocker Veronika Trnkova (25), who was the best hitter of the 2021 Golden League. Returning to the podium for the first time since 1997, when they took bronze, might be a tough ask, but finishing better than eighth and improving their eight most recent performances is certainly an attainable goal.
To do that, the Czechs will probably have to get revenge for their 3-2 setback to Spain in the Golden League bronze medal match back in June when the teams meet in the opening day, August 19. Star 23-year-old outside hitter Ana Escamilla, the top scorer of the Golden League, and 18-year-old Raquel Montoro, the best server of the tournament, will both play a pivotal role in the team’s success in the EuroVolley and if they do well, the Spanish should have every right to dream about an appearance in the elimination round.
