After two victories out of two matches played, Poland are currently topping the charts in Pool B. Considered by many the pool favourite, they emerged victorious against Germany in their opening match. It was a hard fought encounter, but led by Magdalena Stysiak who scored as many as 31 points, the Poles grabbed the victory. On Friday, they recorded a rather easy win against Greece.

On the other side, Czech Republic have already one win and one loss. They started good, outplaying Spain, and getting back at them for the Bronze medal match loss of the Golden #EuroLeagueW. To their disappointment, they couldn’t stop Germany although they had their moments and chances.

Poland will enter the court in Kolodruma as the favourite, but the Czech are not to be underestimated as they count on star player Michaela Mlejnkova.

Poland inches closer to next round after win over Czech Republic

Article 21 August 2021

Led by Magdalena Stysiak Poland got much closer to the next #EuroVolleyW stage after a 3-1 win over Czech Republic.

● Entering the court in Kolodruma unbeaten and without their star in previous two matches - Magdalena Stysiak, the team of Poland was struggling in finding their best rhythm of play at the start. The Czechs took the advantage of the situation and quickly went up to 6-1, dominating on block. With the match progressing the same way, the coach Jacek Nawrocki was forced to bring on Stysiak but with Michaela Mlejnkova (8 points scored) on the other side of the net, the comeback turned out to be impossible for Poland.

● The second set brought out a better performance from the Poles who cruised to an equalizer pushing hard on attack with 47% on winning spikes. The team coached by Nawrocki was better on block as well. 2 points on the component added by Klaudia Alagierska but again Stysiak was the best performer on court with another 8 points scored.

● The Czechs looked to be more nervous in the third set making more errors (9). Still, they managed to improve their performance on attack with the help of Gabriela Orvosova who scored 7 points in the set. Despite their best efforts, the Poles kept steadily and got closer to the win.

● A "monster block" by Klaudia Alagierska put the end of the match after another set which the Czechs fought hard in but Poland was the team that celebrated at the end.

"The key for our win today was the good block. We played well in defense and had a good serve. In the first set, we started a little bit slow but didn’t underestimate our opponents. There's a short rest coming for us before the next match but we need to stay focused for the rest of the tournament."

Klaudia Alagierska
Middle blocker, Poland

"We had our chances today, but we did not manage to serve good which was our main problem. I think we are on the right way. We play well against strong opponents. We just have to give a little bit more of us. The key game is the one with Greece which we have to be perfectly prepared for."
