Germany are already qualified for the next round, and could enter more relaxed the match against Spain.

Most probably, head coach Felix Koslowski would count on the young Camilla Weitzel and Lina Alsmeir. Star, Louisa Lippmann has been leading her team in the past matches, and should her contribution on the court be needed, it is of no doubt that she will make her best again to deliver high-class Volleyball.

On the other side of the net, the Spanish players are out of contention for continuing ahead. They have recorded only one victory in Pool B (against Greece, at 3-2), and will finish fifth place. However, playing for their honour, Raquel Montoro&company might put up a real fight in their last EuroVolleyW 2021match.

Germany outclass Spain to finish the group stage with style

Article

After being already qualified for the next round Germany didn't let surprises and beat Spain in straight sets in both teams' final group stage match. The team coached by Felix Koslowski is currently second-placed in Pool B before the game between Bulgaria and Poland.

⦁ First set brought out the best from the German attackers whose kill rate went up to 61%. Spain looked effortless to fight against the "star" on the court - Kimberly Drewniok who finished the set with 11 points and 100% on winning spikes. 3 aces by Camilla Weitzel completed the high-class Volleyball shown by Germany who easily won the first set.

⦁ The next one again went in one direction only although Spain slightly improved their performance in attack mostly because of the consistency of Raquel Montoro (8 points.) Drewniok was again the leader on the other side of the net and with 5 more points brought Germany ahead.

⦁ Facing the German backup players, Las Leonas didn't give up easily in the most concurrent set in the match and even got it into a point-by-point mode in its decisive part. With a little bit more effort, Germany still managed to win the match in straight sets after a great performance by Lena Stigrot who scored 7 points in the set.

⦁ Kimberly Drewniok (Germany) and Raquel Montoro (Spain) led all the scorers finishing the match with 21 and 13 points respectively.

“It wasn’t an easy match, Spain fought right to the end. We had many difficulties in the third set but we didn’t want to lose it. The key in it for us was to stay consistent. It was my first start in the tournament. I came as a substitute and started a set but wasn’t on the court from the beginning. There were some nerves at the beginning but I think I settled down pretty quickly.”

Pia Kaestner
Setter, Germany

“We already knew that we would not progress to the next phase so we gave chances to the players who did not participate so much in previous matches. Today that was our main goal. The organization of the championship is perfect. Everything is very well prepared. Everything was great.”

Pascual Saurin
Head coach, Spain
