Overview
In the opening match of the competition in Pool C at EuroVolleyW, the hosts Croatia will take on Switzerland, which starts their 5th campaign in the Europe's prime competition. Two years ago, Switzerland finished 19th, once Croatia under guidance of coach Daniele Santarelli reached the eightfinals losing to Turkey. It's the second time when Croatia hosts the event, as they previously did it in 2005 and are aiming to hark back to their achievements from 90s, when in three consecutive editions of the EuroVolley (1995, 1997, 1999) they won silver medals.

Bozana ButiganI could not have asked for a better birthday present than to play the first match of this European Championship at home and to celebrate such a victory! It is a pity that the fans cannot be with us, but I am happy that at least some people could watch us from the stands today and share our feeling of pride and joy!

Korina PerkovacAt the beginning we played a bit nervous. We were prepared for this game, but still being on the court is a different thing. We couldn't find our tempo and our block. Croatia was also better in defence, so they totally deserved this victory. For us every set counts, so in our next game with Hungary we will do our best.
