The last match those two teams played against each other was in 2019, when Slovakia celebrated a 3-0 victory on home soil in Bratislava. Therefore, Switzerland started this match in full swing with their mood additionally enhanced by the sensational victory they had claimed over Hungary (3-2) earlier in the tournament, with Hungary on the other hand a 3-1 winner of their matchup with Slovakia.

The first set was quite even. The two teams mostly gathered quick points one by one; nobody claimed any real advantage, so the set could have gone either way. At 23-20, Slovakia called time-out, but it did not help, as Switzerland won the set 25-21.

In the second set, Slovakia pushed harder and very early made some advantage - first 7-4, increased it to 15-7 and then to 22-11. They took that set with a landslide 25-14. The Swiss team had to take more risks, which resulted in making as many as eight unforced errors. Until then, Slovakia had already had six points from the block, while the Swiss team had only one from the first set.

The third set went to Slovakia 25-21. This section was more even than the second one. The Slovakian serve reception stood at only 18%, but they were efficient in their attack, they had four ace serves, two blocks and made only two mistakes, compared to eight on the Swiss side of the net.

In the fourth set, Switzerland led by 11-6, then 13-8, before Slovakia evened out for 17-17 and, since then, there was a serious fight for every single point. In the end, Slovakia celebrated their 3-1 victory following a 25-22 set win and with that, three hugely important points as well.
