Overview
On Wednesday, Italy defeated in straight sets the host of Pool C - Croatia, showing their strength on the court. The team powered by Paola Egonu who scored 24 points (!) needs one more win to not only complete the preliminary phase unbeaten, but also to top the pool. Switzerland has nothing to lose, being ranked as the last team in the pool with one win claimed after dramatic tie-break against Hungary at the beginning of the tournament. The team guided by Saskia van Hintum will be determined to leave a good impression after their last match and to challenge the bronze medallists of the previous edition of Europe's prime competition.

Anna Danesi“This fifth straight victory means a lot to us, since this pool was quite difficult, possibly because we underestimated some of the teams we played here. They do have a very different style of playing than we are used to – so it took us some time to adjust to their shots, blocks and defence. We now look forward to the matches in Belgrade – we shall probably play France in the 8th Finals. We definitely do not underestimate them, but we know that if we play as good as we can, we can beat anyone.”

Sarah van Rooij“We had nothing to lose and it's so amazing to play against such great players, whom we see on TV, so every point we made is just like a party. We enjoyed being a part of it. Of course, they scored many beautiful points, but we were also able to score a few and to have fun. In the last set, we gave everything and it was very close.”
